The Spirit As Your Guide
“The apostolic community reached a point of committed (covenant) togetherness after fifty days of postresurrection prayer and group discussion. In the midst of this sharing of life together the Holy Spirit was freed to be overtly demonstrated. The dramatic ecstatic effects of the Spirit came out of intimate community with God and the people of God.”
The commitment prayer and sharing life together is integral to the work of the Spirit amongst the community.
“Doing life together” is such an over used phase in world of church. Its so ambiguous and sounds really fantastic, but in reality it is a value that is really hard to hold to. It requires disciple to not hide. Matt Chandler has a phase that I love:
“Its ok to not be ok… Its just not ok to stay there…”
The truth is none of us are ok. We are transformed in the life of Christ, but it takes a consistent renewal of the mind. I believe this is one of the functions of communal Kingdom Life. It is when we allow others to see our brokenness and sin that the Spirit moves in mighty ways through the prayers of close broken friends.
It is the communal recognition that we cannot do with out his Spirit…
Dietrich Bonhoeffer says it this way:
“Mutual Confession leads to Mutual Humiliation”
He is God and We are not… This is where he wants our minds as Kingdom communities.
Wow. It's Quiet Here...
